Running a compliant UK payroll is more than working out what to pay people. Every pay period you have to apply the right tax code to each employee, calculate PAYE income tax and both employee and employer National Insurance, deal with pensions, student loan deductions, attachment of earnings orders and statutory payments like sick, maternity and paternity pay, then report all of it to HMRC in real time and pay everyone correctly. Get a code wrong or miss a filing deadline and it is your business that carries the penalty.
